Isabella Hill’s Outdoor Educational Adventure

Weekly Reflection 8

My experience on the platform Prodigy was a positive experience as I found that this platform encouraged the growth and learning of mathematics and English. Students are able to interact with this platform at their own pace, learning new stages along the way while retaining and facing important mathematical problems.

Some benefits to this platform is that it encourages students to learn math form grade 1-8. Students are also able to create characters and continue on adventures by solving math problems. The more problems they solve correctly, the more successful their characters become. This aspect can help students strive in math as they work hard to create a good status within the game. It seems that the platform adapts to the students learning providing personalized content based on their strengths and weaknesses. This can help students move throughout this game at their own pace helping them exceed in subjects they currently struggle with. Due to this platform being accessible online it can be very interactive and addicting as many games are, but this can also help students progress as it can be motivating students to actively participate and succeed in math.

Negative pitfalls to this online platform can be that it is reward based, therefore, by over rewarding students it can become boring as it is easy to overcome goals. Prodigy mainly focuses on math, if this platform broadened and helped students excel in more than one area, not only could it become a more interactive app but could become a comprehensive educational experience covering multiple other subjects. Lastly the gaming effect of this game could distract some students from the educational content.
